Details

CLA-1 (CD36 and LIMPII Analogous-1) is member of a novel gene family that includes CD36, LIMPII, and SR-BI. CD36 is a cell surface glycoprotein that binds to collagen type I and thrombospondin. LIMPII (lysosomal integral membrane protein II), as its name suggests, is expressed on the membrane of lysosomes. SR-BI (scavenger receptor type B class I) is involved in the selective uptake of cholesterol esters. These proteins include two membrane-anchoring regions, two short cytoplasmic tails, and a large extracellular/luminal domain. CLA-1 mRNA is detected in a wide range of tissues including adrenal glands, liver, and testis. Its expression and similarity with other family members suggest it may play a role in HDL metabolism. However, identification of the CLA-1 receptor on monocytes indicates additional CLA-1 functions in leukocytes.Immunofluorescence, Western Blotting
