Employed in industrial applications such as heat stabilization in nylon and polyesters, coatings of photothermographic paper, gold cyanidation and pyrotechnics. Finds application in supramolecular chemistry. Strong oxidizing agent, and an alternative to the Sommelet reaction for the oxidation of benzylic halides to aldehydes. Used in the preparation of isothiocyanates from dithiocarbamates. Scavenger of bromide in nucleophilic substitution reactions. Manufacture of dinitrogen tetroxide in indurtrial scale.
