VWR No. 20 is a high-quality mechanical pump fluid, distilled from straight petroleum hydrocarbon mineral oil to yield a pure, high-viscosity fluid suitable for all mechanical pump types. This fluid is recommended for use in reactive or corrosive applications such as ion implantation, plasma etching, and low-pressure chemical vapor deposition. It provides the least backstreaming and is particularly well-suited for use with exotic diffusion pump fluids like polyphenyl ethers, silicones, and ester-based fluids. The oil's increased resistance to corrosive attack reduces total downtime, highlighting its performance as a premier mechanical pump fluid. It has been double-distilled to remove the majority of light fractions present in all raw material feedstock, which represent weak links in any fluid and can hasten normal degradation and accumulation of sludge in mechanical vacuum pumps.
