Rapidly detect Parainfluenza virus types 1, 2 and 3 antigens directly in nasopharyngeal aspirates or in cell culture preparations with Thermo Scientific™ IMAGEN™ Parainfluenza Group Kit. This direct immunofluorescence assay utilizes type-specific monoclonal antibodies to detect and identify Parainfluenza virus types 1, 2 and 3.Parainfluenza viruses are members of the genus Paramyxovirus classified within the family Paramyxoviridae.1 There are 6 species of Paramyxovirus known to infect hummans which include Parainfluenza viruses 1, 2, 3, and 4 (subtypes 4a and 4b), Mumps virus, and Newcastle Disease virus. Specimens are incubated with the FITC conjugated reagents for 15 minutes. Excess reagent is then removed by washing with phosphate-buffered saline (PBS). The stained areas are mounted and viewed using epifluorescence illumination. If Parainfluenza virus types 1, 2, or 3 are present then characteristic apple-green intracellular fluorescence is seen within infected cells, which contrasts with the red background staining of uninfected cells.Not all products are available for sale in all territories.
